Ad of the Week: 2 Different Ads for 2 Different German Cars

By October 21, 2010Ad of the week

German Car logos Two different kinds of ads for two different kinds of German cars caught the eye or our Sr. Art Director – the Satch Man – this week. The first is an inspirational ad about big moments and big triumphs and the second is a quirky ad about a personal triumph that paid off two-fold.

Mercedes is the first ad. It features all kinds of people in all kinds of momentous moments. Each moment is followed by spontaneous and joyful raising of the arms. It covers everything from Mohammad Ali with his arms raised as he dances around a downed opponent to the crew in Houston celebrating the moon landing. And then it mirrors that motion with that of the gull wing doors on the new Mercedes raising up in triumph of it's birth or beauty or new technology or the fact that someone shelled out all that dough for one. Whatever it's celebrating, it's a nice juxtaposition with the human triumph.

The second ad is for the new VW Jetta. It features a young man seeing an ad that the new Jetta is coming. It's love at first sight. He rips out the ad and starts taking all kinds of odd (and I do mean odd) jobs to raise the extra money to buy the car when it comes out. He does everything from nude model to rodeo clown to nurses aid giving a sponge bath (there's a nice transition from the sponge bath bucket to the washing the car bucket). Then he sees the incredible low price of the new car and it turns out he saved up enough to buy two. The music that runs through the spot helps give it just the right feel, while moving the story along.
