Ad of the Week: Subaru – Baby Driver

By March 30, 2011Ad of the week

Subaru Baby Driver commercial The best advertising is advertising that completely connects with the target audience on a deep emotional level and engages them. This week's ad, by Subaru, does just that.

In "Baby Driver," we see a loving and caring dad talking to his daughter who's about to take the car out for a drive somewhere. She obviously is a fairly new, if not first time driver. He runs her through the check list of what to do and what not to do with genuine concern and love.

The twist is that the girl we see in the driver's seat is about 4 or 5 years old. And the truth is, that's how many of us parents of older teens, young adults look at our kids. They're still our babies. It seems like only yesterday they were that 4-year-old girl or boy. It's hard to let go of that perception.

Subaru knows that and taps into it well. The spot ties into our desire to make sure our kids are safe and it positions the car as an answer for that need. It also fits in well with their overall campaign based on the simple tagline "love." This spot is definitely about love and taking care of those you love.
