Ad of the Week: T-Mobile – Royal Wedding

By April 29, 2011Ad of the week, web video

The T-Mobile Royal Wedding Sometimes getting a video to go viral is all about the timing. Such is the case with T-Mobile's "Royal Wedding" video that is a spoof spin off of another viral hit from a few years back, the JK Wedding Dance. With all the hype leading up to today's royal wedding in England, the timing was right for a video that tied in.

The premise is simple. They basically took the setup of the original JK Wedding Dance (having all the members of the wedding party dance into the ceremony in a well choreographed dance sequence) and redid it with look-alike actors. You have the Royal family dancing down the aisle in Webminster Abbey.

Is it borrowed interest? Yes, both from emulating the original viral video and in using the Royal wedding. Yet, it was done very well and was entertaining. T-Mobile did a good job of staying out of the way until the very end tag and even made it relevant into their current online campaign of "Life's for Sharing"
