Is this the beginning of the end of radio advertising? Apparently, a music radio station down in Texas has decided to pull radio commercials off their airwaves to keep people from turning that dial. How will they make money? By having their on-air people read 15 second promos between blocks of songs, so the “advertising” doesn’t feel like an interruption. Kind of like how weather and traffic reports are sponsored by different advertisers. As a consumer, I love this idea. As someone working in marketing, it makes me wonder what’s next. Do you like this idea?

Why not? I listen to my satellite radio and Internet radio, without commercials, all the time. And I love it! Don’t get me wrong, I love great radio ads. You just don’t hear them very much any more.
