Google is at it again. Not only do they own YouTube and Blogger, they now created a website to compete with Wikipedia. It’s called Knol and just like Wikipedia, it’s a website about anything and everything. The difference is contributors leave their “signature” and are the only ones that can control/edit the content. In addition, they can place ads (sold by Google) on their pages. The issue is when it comes to search engine optimization, does Knol have an unfair advantage over other web pages. After all, it is owned by Google. Now to be fair, Knol pages rank about the same on Yahoo’s search engine. But come on. The Google people aren’t stupid. I’m sure they know ways to enhance their rankings. Is this a conflict of interest or not? I say no (for now). To me, it’s like a grocery store selling its own line of products. What do you say?
