Oct 21 Ad of the Week: Droid

This week's ad of the week is for the Verizon Droid phone and was chosen by one of our senior art directors.

You can also read about the campaign in this PC World article. Here's why Satch the AD chose it as our ad of the week:

"This is one of the more compelling commercials I've seen recently. Mainly because of the element of intrigue. The commercial is designed to make the viewer think they are watching an "iCommercial" from Macintosh. Complete with standard type, white background and up-beat Fiest-like audio. But, after you read a few lines of copy, you begin to realize this is no Mac commercial for an iPhone, this is an "iDon't" Mac attack that really lays the smack down."

"The commercial pin-points several areas that the iPhone is deficient in. Then, near the end, it abruptly transitions into some neo-grunge filtered graphics that say "Droid does". We are left with a clean and clever logo with no product shot and no clear answer other than the idea that Droid does do all these things that the iPhone doesn't. And that ambiguity kind of leaves you wondering. I like the ad because it introduces a new contender into the mix of a Blackberry and iPhone dominated market. Although they never actually show the product, they come out swinging. Unlike political campaigning…smear ads for products are fun. Think Coke and Pepsi, PC and Mac, Miller and Budweiser. I like this because it also gives Macintosh an opportunity to strike back, or just address the problems pointed out in the commercial. Either way, Competition breeds a better product and a better product results in more creative advertising. We all win."

sheetwowsheetApril 20, 2011 Whatever you do, don’t get an iPhone! Apple are going through a bad teahinccl patch at the moment and we wait to see how they are going to resolve things. The iPhone, the iPad and the iPod Nano are all affected by things like incorrect signal strength displays, inability to auto date change, poor signal strength, overheating and poor visibility problems.Other phones have better technology than the iPhone and it will be a while before the iPhone catches up. Android phones are quicker, have good signal receivers, can do genuine multitasking (something the iPhones cannot do) and unlike iPhones, they are not restricted by what apps they can have.Android phones are the future now.
