Ad of the Week: Cadillac – Red Blooded Luxury

By January 20, 2011Ad of the week, Advertising

Cadillac Red Blooded screenshot This ad starts with the perception of what Blue Blood luxury has become (and perhaps some perceptions of the Cadillac brand?). It's a very cold scene of a rich couple "celebrating" their anniversary by quietly eating dinner at opposite ends of a long table in their nice home. Interestingly enough, when they go to show the kind of person who would enjoy the "red-blooded luxury" of a Cadillac, they go to a Richard Branson looking guy on a motorcycle, not a car.

The spot has fabulous art direction as the fast paced montage of images designed to give us a feel of fashion, old-school glamor and new wave excitement look beautiful intercut with images of the car. There's a great voice over by Lawrence Fishburn reading deliciously sparse copy. It doesn't have the smart, understated feel of the Cadillac stuff Modernista was doing before they and Cadillac split ways, but it has a nice blending of fast and slow paced editing and audio.

So, even though it's almost like a catalog of shots designed to hit every niche market and personality trait the research told them to go after, I think it works. The end product is enjoyable to watch and to listen to. Take a look for yourself and let me know what you think.
