Things are changing so fast, it's hard for business to keep up. First the internet changed everything. Then social media changed everything again. Now mobile is changing everything yet again. Each innovation changes our world faster than the last. And who knows what's next? How do you make sure your business not only survives, but thrives in this new digital age? Reading Spin Sucks: Communication and Reputation Management in a Digital Age by Gini Dietrich is a good start.
The book offers an easy to follow step-by-step guide to both protect and proliferate your business in this new digital age. Gini offers great advice and solid real-world examples on everything from using your website to generate new business to protecting your company's reputation online to dealing with a crisis (or better yet, avoiding one).
Spin Sucks is written from a PR profesional's point of view, and if you are in the PR business, whether brand new or old school, you should absolutely read this book. But if you're a marketer or a business owner or have one as a client, it is written for you as well. And the best part is, you can sit and read it all in one sitting or break it up into little bite size nuggets of valuable information as you go.
I am not a PR professional. I am a marketing and social media person who reads a lot of business books that relate to my chosen fields. I was given an advance galley proof of Spin Sucks to review and found it a fascinating read from start to finish; one of the best of the genre that I've read. Gini writes in a way that makes it easy to understand and easy to execute.
We all have to be digital companies and do business in the online world one way or another. It's just the way things are and they're only going to get more so. And if you haven't realized that yet – this will serve as a good eye opener. But, if you are a person or company who is really into using the digital world to your advantage – you'll still find some great ideas here that you didn't think of before. Or maybe it's something you had thought of but hadn't figured out how to do yet. Each chapter is it's own little "how to" book for different parts of the digital world you need to deal with.
So, since you're already here on the web – why not grab your own copy now? And then let me know what you think. Also, if you'd like to see what I learned from the last book Gini wrote, Marketing In The Round, you can check it out here or in the related articles below.
