Some basic human emotions translate well in any language. Such is this spot for Dtac, a tel-com provider in Thailand. It not only deals, in a very touching way, with our basic love for our kids, but it deals with a universal problem the younger (and some of us older) generation has: too much dependence on technology. It's a phone company ad that basically tells you sometimes, you need to just put the phone down.
The premise is that a new father is alone with his baby while his wife is out shopping. The baby is in the crib crying and he obviously doesn't know what to do, so he video chats with his wife on his cell phone. She suggests multiple things, including playing a favorite cartoon on the phone and her trying to play peek-a-boo with the baby via facetime.
When nothing works, the young father – who obviously is uncomfortable holding the baby yet – sets the phone down and picks up the crying baby. This settles the baby and brings the mom watching from the other end of the phone to tears. It really is well done and well acted. The ad ends with a tagline: "technology will never replace love." Not a bad sentiment for a phone company that gives us so many ways to connect, except a real human touch.
Dtac – Baby
I hope you enjoyed this week's choice. I find it interesting, that as technology shrinks our world, we can see we all suffer from the same problems – including too much reliance on technology. What did you think? Also, if you have your own idea of what you think is worthy, send me a link here in the comments or via our various social channels.
Mike McClure, no those aren't tears, my darn allergies are acting up!
