With Father's Day coming up, Gillette has released a video that tries to give men the same emotional impact as some of the Dove Real Beauty or Always #LikeAGirl videos have for women. It does it fairly well, too – there is some father/son crying. So, there's that.
The premise of the video is that kids no longer go to their dad's for advice, the ask their phones instead. Gillette wants to show teens the folly in that logic and that dear old dad is still the place to go for good advice.
The video opens with the statement that "94% of teenagers ask the internet for advice before their dads." It then goes on to have a series of teen boys ask the internet how to do things – everything from how to tie a tie to how to ask a girl out. And, of course, how to shave. The spot is multi-cultural, with different kids speaking in different languages with subtitles along with the English scenarios. Of course, all the teens have trouble accomplishing their tasks using just the Internet.
Then – surprise! – they bring in the kids' dads, who help them in a much better and more personal way. The teens learn that their dads not only care about them, but do a much better job as teachers. All in all, it's a touching video, well executed. Give it a watch and let me know what you think.
