Our popular feature, Ad of the Week, returns today with one I think you’re really going to like, whether you like basketball or not. The idea behind Ad of the Week is that when we see something exceptional, whether we created it or not, we share it so everyone can appreciate it.
It’s only fitting that as the NBA regular season shuts down and the post season is about to begin without Dwayne Wade, that we share this truly touching video put together by Budweiser. The premise plays off the fact that during his farewell season, Dwayne Wade has swapped jerseys with some of the top opposing players after each game. As the season was coming to a close, Budweiser wanted to surprise Wade with five more “jerseys” from people who’s lives he’s touched over the years.
Each person comes out and tell the story of how Dwayne Wade profoundly affected their lives and give him a garment that represents that change. Not only do you get an appreciation for the kind of selfless life Wade has lived as a professional ball player, but each story is told in a very heart wrenching way – from the sister of a kid killed at the Parkland shootings who’s name Wade wrote on his shoe, to the recipients of some of his generous donations to his mom who had gone off to prison but now has her own church, thanks to Wade.
It’s a very moving video that may have you dabbing at your eyes before it’s done. And Budweiser told the story without making it about them. There’s a sign on the court Wade walks by and a mention of them as the ones who put this together at the end. It’s a very nice piece of content, well done. Will it get me to switch to Bud? No. But it goes a long way towards positive branding with those who do like their product.
So, grab a Kleenex and enjoy!
Mike McClure, really, I’m not crying, it’s just my allergies acting up.
