Ad of the Week: KFC – Growing Up & Moving Out

Kfc growing up moving out videoA lot of us have faced the horror of having to move back in with our parents after being on our own for awhile. These days, it seems to be happening more and more often as even college graduates are having a hard time finding a job in their chosen field. In fact, my own son moved back in just last month.

KFC has teamed up with Comedy Central to create a web series to capitalize on this phenomenon. It's called Growing Up and Moving Out and focuses on a broke college student who has to move back in with his parents. They make his life miserable. His wacky dad, played by Dave Koechner, has turned his room into a "thinking room" and tells him he can live in the basement. His mom, played by Mad TV's Mo Collins, does all the things that mom's do that drive you crazy once you've been on your own. Like want to know what you're doing, where you're going and why you're not joining them for dinner. Rounding out the cast is his perfect little sister who just got the gighest possible score on her SATs and his KFC Bites muching buddy who's just kind of along for the ride.

Oh yeah, the whole campaign is aimed at selling their KFC bites, which are promoted as grown up alternatives to chicken nuggets. There are TV spots in the campaign, which oddly enough, feature a different guy who had to move in with his parents. And there's a social media component on both KFC's and Comedy Central's channels and websites.

The campaign also points people to a website where they can enter to win a year's rent and a year's worth of chicken – so someone could actually move out of their folks place. There will be 5 episodes in all, which will also be on this site. The whole series is pretty funny so far. Enjoy.
