The recent news of Career Builder and Cramer-Krasselt has got me wondering. After CK did wonders for Careerbulder.com with the "Monkeys in the workplace" campaign and the "Monke-mail" website, they were put under review after their recent superbowl performance. After CK’s phenomenal success and accolades – I think this takes the "you¹re only as good as your last performance" mentality to the extreme. But I still have to ask… why ditch the monkeys? The monkeys sprung them beyond monster and other competitors, they we¹re the driving force behind one of the most visited websites EVER! and everyone loves monkeys…except those "intelligent design" clowns. So in an effort to up blog comments I ask you this….why? why? why? stop the monkey train? Monkeyboy Komusin
As we’ve seen with our own cleints and even ourselves. We all spend so much time wrapped up in campaigns, they/we get tired of the campaign long before the consumer does.
I thought it was unfair that the agency got fired, since (based on articles I read in Adweek)it was the client who wanted something new. And to get fired based on one Superbowl showing is crazy (just ask Leo Burnett Detroit). Who’s to say, if given time, their new campaign won’t prove effective? Personally, I like monkeys and have always tried to get them into spots. Best monkey spot: The Superbowl E-Trade commercial. The worst monkey spot: Dodge’s “monkey on your back” spot.
U know whats cool about monkys? They throw crap at people Just like advertisers do!
I don’t have a real good answer for that one Kyle. I did see something similar the other day. Anybody hear of AFLAC. Of course we all have. And the reason we have is because of that stupid, silly little duck. It has become an icon. Well the new CMO at AFLAC has decided that he wants to put his “own stamp” on their advertising. He has decreed that it is “off with the little duck’s head” and it’s to be relegated to the bin of advertising history. “The duck has begun to outshine our brand” was the quote I remember. Who exactly is kidding who here. The duck is the brand and it’s a damn good one! Come to think of it maybe that’s why the monkey’s are going to join the duck…”I want to put my own stamp on it”. I think they call it…ego…sigh.
